Fatal Accident in Sun Lakes as Driver Runs Red Light

SUN LAKES, AZ –

In a tragic accident on Friday afternoon, a driver lost their life after running a red light and colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of S E J Robson Blvd and E Riggs Rd.

According to reports from AZFamily, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m.

The deceased driver, identified as 67-year-old Rita Halverson, ignored the red light and crashed into a vehicle driven by a 58-year-old woman.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene and transported Halverson to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The other driver sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover, as her injuries were not life-threatening. She was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
