A Driver Believed to be Impaired Kills Pedestrian Near Phoenix Homestead
PHOENIX, AZ –
Tragedy struck early Saturday morning when a suspected impaired driver fatally struck a pedestrian near N 29th St and Thomas Rd, as reported by AZFamily.
The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m., when the driver collided with 46-year-old Peter Klabanos as he was crossing Thomas Rd.
Emergency responders quickly arrived and administered life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, Klabanos was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the aftermath of the collision, the driver remained at the location and cooperated with authorities.
Law enforcement officials observed signs of possible impairment in the driver and conducted a DUI investigation. The decision on whether to press charges will hinge on the results of a pending toxicology report.
