Amazon Truck Crashes Into Overpass Bridge on I-10 EB in Arizona

Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon May 16th 2024, when a semi-truck collided  with an overpass bridge on eastbound I-10 near 339th Avenue, resulting in the deaths of two men, according to news reports.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when an Amazon semi-truck reportedly experienced a tire blowout.

This sudden malfunction caused the driver to lose control and crash into the center column of the overpass bridge.

After the impact, the truck came to a halt in the median of the highway.

The occupants of the semi-truck were identified as Abdullahi Muhammed Abdi, 40, and Fadhi Hamdi Ali, 35.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but unfortunately, one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In the wake of the accident, authorities closed the affected area for several hours to allow for thorough investigation and cleanup. This closure significantly impacted traffic, causing delays and rerouting.

In addition to the immediate response, engineers were dispatched to inspect the structural integrity of the overpass bridge.

After a detailed assessment, they determined that the bridge had not sustained significant damage and was safe for continued use.
